            Paradox

                Alan Zhu

It’s been said that what goes up is sure to come down

A matter of time in high bliss before the downfall surmounts

I guess to keep the world “fair”, as permanence is evasive

Win some and lose some, those sharing a paradox trade places

What stays constant is only change; love is a conflict away from hate

You may perceive clarity in sleep and blur from confusion when awake

The poor long for prosperity; the rich become lured to struggle

The middle realize the contradictions, in the center of world troubles

Those thinking they got it all, losing it all hits the hardest

But those never satisfied could never sink, for they aim the farthest

            Nobody Understands

                Alan Zhu

            Ain’t nobody understand the complexity

            Of all that perplexes me

            Disappointing all that expect more

Pleasing those that want less of me

As I take derision in stride

            For nonbelievers testing me

Set on success as my revenge

Yet it feels redemption I’ll never see

Who truly apprehends my own terms

            Of living successfully?

            Perhaps the lack thereof

Makes for reasons to mess with me

            Motivation rooted

Since the Heavenly Father blessed the seed

But Mother Nature ain’t let the son shine

            In the path of destiny

            Optimism ain’t felt right staying

Leaving all but sadness left in me

            Such discrepancy that’d make

The deceased find trouble to rest in peace

            They’ll never comprehend it,

Being forced out of progression’s reach

            Tossing the purpose to find

The mission to accomplish, the quest to seek

            I’m never to be understood

            Practically, figuratively, or intellectually

            Or maybe just nobody cares…

Of these troubled waters trying to sink the best of me
